Buckland School
Gates County, NC
A six-year study of water quality was conducted at the Buckland School to determine the effectiveness of constructed wetlands for wastewater treatment. This was one of the first locations where multistage soil and plant filtration was combined as a precursor to constructed wetlands. Then called hybrid systems, they proved to intensify the treatment processes as compared to one-unit systems of either soil filters or vegetated systems.
